Spark: York opened to the public on 4th May 2018. It's a community-based pop-up project for the people of York and its visitors. It comprises around 23 upcycled shipping containers, which house cafés, bars, retail units such as florists and vintage clothing stores, restaurants, a hairdresser, and a sensory garden.
These containers are arranged over two levels across the site with a large central communal area and a mezzanine level around the top.
R Vint Engineering Ltd provided the structural engineering design for this project, which included calculating the structural capabilities of the containers as well as the strengthening works required for them, plus designing both the foundation solutions and the first floor walkway.
