Kala Sangham: value engineering for a listed building

We're delighted to be assisting our colleagues at York-based contractor Simpson Construction in the major refurbishment and adaptation of this Grade II listed building in the heart of Bradford. Our structural and civil engineering input has enabled considerable value engineering for the scheme and simplified the works to enable temporary works to be reduced and embedded into the permanent engineering which enables safer, quicker, and more cost-effective solutions to be achieved.

Kala Sangam is an intercultural arts hub based in the amazing Grade II listed building (designed by architect Henry Tanner and built in 1886) with a polished granite frontage. Built in the Northern Renaissance architectural style with French overtones, it is a showpiece of particular architectural interest along with some of the finest Victorian buildings in the Little Germany area of the city.

In addition to our engineering input, we created a comprehensive Revit model of the entire building to enable the complex levels and form of the building to be visualised, clash detection to be undertaken, and rationalisation and value engineering to be achieved.
