Stone Connection: structural and drainage design

Stone Connection is a York-based company providing stone for worksurfaces to domestic and commercial markets. They asked R Vint Engineering to design the one-storey extension they needed to house and manufacture materials such as marble, granite, silestone, dekton, caeserstone, and more.
We produced the designs for:
- a portal frame extension consisting of fixed columns and rafters with wall and roof longitudinal cross bracing
- the substructure: traditional pad footings to each steel column
- the floor slab
- drainage design of the entire area
- design of external concrete hardstanding to improve utilisation of the external space/storage yard on site
An important part of this project was considering the potential movement that may have occurred in the existing portal frames to ensure forces from these would not transfer to the new extension element.
