This major residential project sees the creation of the first phase of the re-generational development of the historical industrial Smith’s Dock area of North Shields. The project aims to create a distinctive settlement in this beautiful part of North Tyneside.
Plateau is the first phase of this development that includes the introduction of 34 new build bespoke houses
using the modular hoUSe system developed by client Urban Splash. These houses are ‘general needs housing’.
R Vint Engineering Limited are the civil and structural engineers on both phases of the project; developing
engineering solutions for both the substructure and civil/infrastructure engineering aspects of the Plateau site.
Challenges on the Plateau site that have been approached and engineered by R Vint Engineering Ltd include addressing risks within this challenging brown-field site. These were predominantly:
– Establishing the exact position of utilities and negotiating reductions of their associated easements to
enable maximisation of the site development
– Establishing ground conditions in the brown-field site and devising foundation solutions to enable the
most cost-effective foundation system that also worked with the previous remediation works and proposed
programme, and minimised arrisings to limit the potential need to dispose of contaminated land off-site.
