Erith Park Artwork – Sculpture

Client – Orbit;  Artist – Howard Bowcott;   Role – Structural Engineers

Erith Park is Orbit’s flagship regeneration scheme.  They demolished an unpopular ex-council high rise estate and replaced it with attractive housing for rent, sale and shared ownership. They then commissioned a piece of public art to act as an entrance feature to the Erith Park regeneration scheme.

They were seeking a unique piece which would reflect and celebrate the new community of Erith Park. Their desire was to create a piece of artwork that would provide a striking entry feature, so a size of at least 2 x 3 x 1 metres. The piece would have to survive in a challenging public environment; the brief stated that it would have to be resistant to vandalism, including robust installation to deter theft and uprooting.

R Vint Engineering Ltd had previously worked with Howard Bowcott on another of his public installations in Glamorgan, and we were delighted to assist him with this project in Erith Park. We provided the structural calculations for this impressive piece.
